Fr Seery Memorial Running Festival

21st Jun 2021

This Thursday 24th June our school will mark the life of our recently deceased school Chaplin and dear friend, Fr Michael Seery.
Fr Seery attended to the children at school weekly during his time in the parish. Fr Seery enjoyed  preparing the children for their Sacraments and always had a chat about the local Gaelic football too. On his passing we learned more about Fr Seery and the great Sportsman that he was. In his younger years he enjoyed running and ran many marathons from Boston to Belfast. With that in mind the school thought it would be a fitting tribute to organise a Memorial Run Day.

On Thursday the children at St. Mary's will take part in a running festival in Fr Seery's memory. The school was delighted that the local GAA club, Stewarstown Harps offered them their running track for the event.

We are very grateful to local groups in Stewarstown - Bowling Club, St. Vincent de Paul and St. Mary’s Hall who kindly sponsored the event and to Newell Stores Coalisland who also kindly donated the children’s healthy snack on the day.

Images include some of the T-shirts and medals from marathons that Fr Seery had successfully run and were kindly loaned to school by his family.
